Q: I have all high hpv. Is the risk of contracting cancer higher that I had 1 high risk strain? Thank you
A: Both high-risk and low-risk types of HPV can cause the growth of abnormal cells, but generally only the high-risk types of HPV may lead to cancer. Having high risk hpv does put you at a higher risk of developing cervical cancer. We usually monitor these patients more frequently. Always get a yearly pap smear. However, the majority of high-risk HPV infections go away on their own and do not cause cancer
